Geronimo Road Elementary School is located west of the Polo field just inside the Key Gate entry to Fort Sill. This school, formerly known as the Post Children’s School, sits on 12.83 acres of the Fort Sill Military Post. Lawton Public Schools began building Geronimo Road in 1951, and completed it the next year. There is an average of 500 students in grades Pre-K through fifth grade. The current certified staff includes a principal, an assistant principal, a full-time counselor, a full-time certified library media specialist, and forty-three certified teachers. We currently have twenty-five support personnel and numerous parent and community volunteers. Our special education program consists of a resource learning disabilities classroom and three self-contained autism classes. We currently have two speech pathologists on the staff to serve our students with speech and language needs.
With the exception of our self-contained special education classrooms, Geronimo Road Elementary exclusively serves military families, and therefore, has an extremely high transient population as these families move in and out of the Fort Sill community. Many of our students have one or both parents deployed, yet the staff at Geronimo Road School is able to continually hold high expectations for each student and keep student success and achievement at an optimum level. The teachers maintain a sense of family and community within their classrooms which helps provide the safe and comfortable learning environment necessary for and conducive to learning. Our new students adapt quickly to their new school and overall, our students perform well on state mandated tests.
